New Influences for Mapping Projects

1.) http://visual.ly/justin-bieber-bling
This infographic design is interactive and is broken down into simpler components (in this case what he is wearing).  This is similar to what I am going to do with my bracelet, but instead broken into the beads that were used and the two parts used to make it.  Also a photos of the person and the items were used.
2.) http://www.cragindesign.com/projects/calwatch-lead-jewelry-infographic.shtml
In this design, photos of the jewelry were included and parts of the jewelry were labeled.  I want to do the same with my bracelet (that is label the certain beads).
3.) http://www.buysight.com/blog/2010/05/25/the-anatomy-of-a-jewelry-buyer/
4.) http://brennapaxtonindesign.blogspot.com/2011_10_01_archive.html
I like how the images of the jewelry from the jewelry box were included along with the jewelry box.  This gives me an idea how big the box was the dimensions of the jewelry.
5.) http://allmyeyes.blogspot.com/2011/11/gem-of-map.html
I was inspired how each gem stone was included along with the stone's location on the map.  I want the try to include a map of Lancaster to indicate the location of the store where I got the beads.

Mapping Project: Influences

The problem you are trying to solve:  Map out how to make this bracelet and how I (Heather) price the jewelry that I make to sell.  To do this I will take pictures of my bracelet in different stages of making it.  The bracelet will be photograph on dark green or black velvet cloth for contrast.  There will be a fourth picture of scattered beads that were used to make the bracelet.  The page layout will be landscape and the pictures will be put in order starting from top to bottom.  On the bottom of the page will be a graph showing the number of the five different beads in this bracelet and another graph indicating how much certain amounts of beads are.  There will also be instructions about this map at the bottom of the graphs.

3.) (2012). MACH 5 Infographics. DeviantART. Feb. 22, 2012, <http://lobo-gris.deviantart.com/art/MACH-5-Infographics-85431343>.
4.) Tattoo Design Infographic Map-Submit a Infographic Map. Feb. 24, 2012, <http://infographipedia.com/tattoo-design-infographic-map-submit-a-infographic-map.html>.
5.) 30 Superb Examples of Infographic Maps. Feb. 24, 2012, <http://www.webdesignerdepot.com/2009/10/30-superb-examples-of-infographic-maps/>.

What all five of these maps have that influenced me was that they break down the subject into smaller components to make it easier for the reader to understand what is going on and they use different colors to indicate different fragments of information.  The maps dealing with how to get a tattoo and the MACH-5 car is layout similar to what I am planning to do with my bracelet because it uses an actual subject and the tools needed for doing the task.  MACH-5 map goes farther by breaking the car up into separate parts with fragments of related information right next to it.  The UK public speaking map has a detail typed description about the map on the bottom of the page.  The Starbucks and McDonald's map has the same world map but the two world maps are indicating different information with contrast colors and graphs.

Mapping Project: Design Idea

For this assignment, I decided to map out how to make a bracelet that I made myself and include the instructions and how I priced this bracelet based on how much money I send on the beads and how long it take my to make the bracelet.  The information for how to make to bracelet will be from me personally and the prices of the beads will from the JoAnn Fabrics and Michael's websites.

Feb. 13th (Sketches for Project 1.2)

For this second project, I will can a map about my and my hobby of making jewelry.  I will have a drawing of myself in the center and two graphs (one on the left and one on the right).  The graph on the left will indicate how much money I spend on materials.  The graph on the right will indicate what type of beads I use the most.

Assignment 1: Separate Colored Images

Project 2 (1.1) My Half of the Project

My partner (Christina Ottey) and I did this project together.  We took information about us and convert it into a comparsion map.  We have our similarities inside the circle and our differences outside of the circle.  Christina made her half of the image dealing with my background information and I made my half dealing with Christina's background.  We arranged it dealing with the right and left hemispheres of the brain.  The right side of the brain is more involved with the sciences and the left side is involved in the art aspects.  Since I am a biology major, Christina arranged her half more like a figure in a science textbook.  Christina is an art major, so I drew my images about Christina's life and made the document have an artistic design.

Assignment 1: Final and Redue

Week 3 (Project 2 1.1 Sketches with and without color)
